This woven cloth were famous for its natural dye color and numerous motifs which each embedded customs and beliefs of its people. Tenun Ende generally are in a darker shades compared to many woven cloth from another region, nevertheless they also come with more varied motifs—though only women that wear a more diverse motifs while men tends to use only the stripes one. Selain keindahan laut serta landscape gunung vulkaniknya, Ende—NTT yang berstatus sebagai kota tempat lahirnya Pancasila juga memiliki peninggalan lain yang patut dicatat yakni kain tenunnya. Kain tenun Ende terkenal dengan warna-warna alamnya serta motif yang mengilustrasikan adat serta kepercayaan masyarakatnya. The dominant cultural groups of North Sumatra are the various Batak ethnic groups whose textiles are commonly referred to as Ulos, which litteraly means 'blanket', that warms the body and protect it from exposure to cold air. Many different kind of ulos, and one of the special one is Ulos Ragi Hotang (means 'rattan pattern'). It is traditionally placed around the shoulders of a bridal couple expressing the wish that their union will be as strong as rattan.
